What colors are prevailing - tonal or local, warm or cold? Building a monochromatic theme simply uses a single color in graduating shades like cream, beige and brown. It is hard to go wrong with this color palette, so everyone can use it successfully. But unless variations of the one color used are handled with flair, this can be an unexciting look. THE BRUSHWORK. Depending on the art movement and personal peculiarities of the artist, the brushwork can range from delicate and almost invisible to rough and plastic.

Before you start painting, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the weather for rain or snow. You don't want to start painting only to stop abruptly because of the weather. Have plenty of newspaper around. After you clean your brushes wrap them in a plastic bag. If red is the color of fire and yellow is the color of sun, then orange color, which originates from the blend of these two colors, combines both warmth and light in it. Light muted orange accent will give your interior cosiness and warmth, especially in the room with windows facing north. Bright orange color in the interior on the other hand is more of a claim for originality. However, if you put a coat of pure white primer (which has a score of 0) on top of the brown color wall first, this immediately brings your luminosity score down to 4 (8 + 0 = 8/2 = 4, the average). This means you may only need one coat of yellow paint to give you the right hue and saturation. In reality of course, you will always want to do at least 2 coats. But even with a total of 3 coats (primer and paint) you are way ahead of the paint-only option.
